Over the summer The London Sports Trust held tennis sessions for deprived young people across Hammersmith and Fulham in White city, West Kensington Estate and Townmead Estate. Over 104 young people aged 8-16 years, across the three sites, were taught tennis. The QCF provided a grant of £1300 to enable these sessions to run.
At the session the coaches were teaching the young people skills and drills from forehand, backhand, serving and volleying. Each session they broke the skills down to fun games, which the young people loved.
One of the young people said, “I’ve loved learning more about tennis this summer and I’m going to join the tennis club at school, as I haven’t really had a chance to play tennis before.”
One of the parents commented, “My child attended the summer camp at Fulham Boys School and they said how much he enjoyed playing tennis! He convinced me to try as well. It is a great way to get plenty of fresh air, being active. London Sports Trust have been very helpful and very friendly, over the summer and my children can’t wait to the next holiday camp to do more tennis games.”
