The Queen’s Club Foundation is delighted to again be supporting Penzance Tennis Club. After the success of their disability tennis programme in 2019, we are excited to now assist Penzance in expanding their tennis in schools programme.
In 2018 Penzance launched their schools programme with 16 local primary schools receiving free tennis coaching. The coaches from Penzance Tennis Club went into schools across the region delivering a fun assembly followed by an exciting tennis lesson to inspire the students to want to play tennis. Following the tennis lessons students are given vouchers to attend free tennis sessions at Penzance Tennis Club after school as well as on Saturday mornings.
The Club successfully expanded the programme in 2019 with four new schools joining the programme, including one secondary school. In total over 5000 students in the Penwith area have received high quality tennis lessons from experience and qualified coaches. The Queen’s Club Foundation’s grant will enable Penzance Tennis Club to reach students in all 26 local primary schools and both secondary schools in Penwith. This means every student in the Penwith area will have the opportunity to receive high quality tennis coaching while they are at school.
We are extremely excited about supporting this project as it fulfils our mission to widen participation in tennis to those who are normally denied access to the sport. We wish Penzance Tennis Club luck with the project and look forward to coming to visit in the future.
