The Queen’s Club Foundation is delighted to introduce our new grantee: Choice International. Choice is a London based not-for-profit organisation, passionate about promoting diversity and inclusion through sport. They specifically target individuals who are more at risk of exclusion and barriers to social inclusion and social mobility such as disabled.
The Queen’s Club Foundation are supporting Choice to deliver online tennis sessions and day camps for wheelchair tennis.
During lockdown Choice launched live interactive online wheelchair tennis sessions with people joining from across the UK. This has enabled people to improve their mental and physical health and stay active during a period of enforced isolation. The sessions included; fitness exercises, wheelchair pushing and coordination techniques, as well as practicing different strokes to improve wheelchair tennis skills and knowledge. One of the participants commented: “I think you’re doing a wonderful thing… It’s a troubling time for everyone but these sessions are great for connecting us all. The sessions are informative, fun and in my opinion you’re doing a great job of accommodating various standards of players, thank you!” The Foundation are supporting these sessions allowing them to continue.
As we ease out of lockdown Choice is also recommencing with its weekly wheelchair tennis coaching sessions in Newham Tennis Centre, and will also be launching a series of day camps for people across England to attend.
Choice is committed to providing the highest standard of coaching to its participants with Mark Bullock, former ITF Wheelchair Tennis Manager, and Stuart Wilkinson, former British National Coach, part of their coaching setup.
The Queen’s Club Foundation is very excited about the work Choice have planned for the future and are delighted to be supporting them to also continue their existing projects.
