Meet Liam and Hetty: Looking Back on Their First Two Months at the Foundation

Two months ago, The Queen's Club Foundation welcomed two new members to the team. Liam Rabbitte joined as our Head Coach and Programme Coordinator, while Hetty Palmer became our first-ever Fundraising Manager, a newly created role that reflects the Foundation's ambition to grow its impact and reach even more people through racket sports.

With a busy summer already behind them, including the HSBC Championships, the International Para-standing Tennis Tournament and our Centre Court Celebrations, we caught up with Liam and Hetty to hear about their experiences so far.

First Impressions

Although they joined the Foundation in very different roles, both Liam and Hetty were drawn to the organisation for the same reason: the opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

For Liam, it was the Foundation's commitment to making racket sports accessible to people of all abilities and backgrounds that stood out. "Giving people the chance to get involved, enjoy sport and improve their lives on such a large scale is something I really wanted to be part of."

Hetty was similarly attracted by the Foundation's sense of purpose and ambition. "I was looking for a new challenge within the charity sector and wanted to be part of a team that is passionate, ambitious and driven by purpose. Joining The Queen's Club Foundation offered exactly that."

Their first few weeks coincided with one of the busiest periods of the year, providing an unforgettable introduction to life at Queen's. "Seeing Queen's Club transform into a world-class WTA and ATP 500 event while learning about the impact the Foundation was having in the community was genuinely eye-opening," said Liam.

Hetty agreed, describing her arrival as a "whirlwind start" that was "exciting, fast-paced and full of new experiences."

Despite the pace, both highlighted the warm welcome they received from colleagues, members and supporters, helping them settle into their roles quickly.

Experiencing the Foundation's Impact

One of the strongest impressions both Liam and Hetty have taken from their first two months is seeing the Foundation's work in action across so many different communities.

From programmes for young people and SEND schools to opportunities for refugees, disabled participants and older adults living with dementia, both have witnessed the positive impact racket sports can have on people's lives. "The enjoyment, confidence and gratitude we see from participants is clear evidence of the difference these programmes are making," said Liam.

Hetty has been particularly impressed by the work that happens behind the scenes to make those opportunities possible. "Whether it's introducing young people to tennis, supporting SEND schools, creating opportunities for disabled participants, or engaging older generations, the Foundation works hard to ensure everyone feels welcome."

For both, seeing sport bring people together, build confidence and create new opportunities has reinforced the importance of the Foundation's mission to improve lives through racket sports.

Standout Moments

When asked about their most memorable experiences so far, both pointed to events that showcased the transformative power of sport.

For Hetty, it was watching the finals of the International Para-standing Tennis Tournament. "The determination, resilience and passion shown by every athlete was inspiring. It was a powerful reminder of how sport can challenge perceptions and bring people together."

For Liam, the highlight was delivering the Foundation's Centre Court Celebration Session for 8U Red Ball players from the Community Programme. "For the players, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to step onto Centre Court at Queen's. As someone who grew up watching the tournament on TV and has always been a huge tennis fan, it was a very special moment for me too."

These experiences demonstrated not only the quality of the programmes being delivered but also the life-changing memories the Foundation helps create.

Looking Ahead

Both Liam and Hetty are excited about the future and the opportunity to help the Foundation continue to grow.

Liam is passionate about expanding the Foundation's reach and impact across all racket sports. "I want us to set the standard for what's possible in community sport – constantly learning, improving and inspiring others along the way."

Meanwhile, Hetty is focused on building strong relationships and developing sustainable fundraising that will support the Foundation's work for years to come. "Creating sustainable income is essential to ensuring we can continue transforming lives through racket sports for years to come."

Together, Liam and Hetty have already made a fantastic start, bringing energy, expertise and enthusiasm to the team. We are delighted to have them on board and look forward to seeing the impact they will help create in the years ahead.
