The Queen’s Club Foundation (“QCF”) is delighted to announce that Naqi Rizvi has agreed to be The QCF’s latest Ambassador. Naqi is the current World No. 1 in Blind Tennis (B1) and has held the UK National Champion title 4 years in a row.
Naqi also enjoys other sports and has run 2 marathons and taken part in various sporting competitions. He works in financial services and has completed both an undergraduate degree and a masters in engineering.
Visually Impaired Tennis (VI Tennis) is a key focus for development for The QCF and Naqi is looking forward to being able to support The QCF in its work within this area of tennis.
Naqi said “Tennis can be a very positive force for change, but it’s often perceived to be unreachable by certain groups of people including those with low associate economic backgrounds and disabilities. I want to change that perception and allow others to be part of this amazing sport which has given me so much. I never knew how incredible tennis could be when I started and I never thought someone who couldn’t see anything could use hand ear coordination to play this incredible sport. While certain forms of disability tennis have grown in popularity, sound tennis is one aspect which hasn’t received attraction and coverage it deserves. I want to see this sport in grand slams, the Paralympics and all major tournaments and I hope that I can be a part of this transformation. The QCF shares my desire to promote and support VI tennis, and I look forward to working as an ambassador and giving back to the sport I love so much”.
Kate Maurici, Head of Foundation, said: “Naqi is an exceptional player and what really stands out when working with him is his desire to educate others about his sport in a welcoming and supportive way. He is clearly passionate about tennis and we hope that with Naqi on board, we will be able to increase awareness of VI tennis and all the opportunities it can bring to players"
